Abstract

The aim of this project is to analyze, design, develop and evaluate a pilot of an integrated network management platform that includes optical performance monitoring (OPM) capabilities to be applied in next generation optical networks. The particular emphasis will be put on management of optical connections, cross layer automated fault and performance management and complex Quality of Service (QoS) management. Management of optical connections will include path engineering that takes under consideration physical aspects of optical links in transparent domains such as optical signal impairments. Fault and performance management will include monitoring cross layer parameters in optical networks; from pure physical up to high level QoS Service Level Agreement (SLA) parameters. The QoS management will assure service provision according to the predefined SLA between the client and optical network or service provider. All issues within this project will be treated from the most recent protocols perspective, like optical link connections protocols, GMPLS, IP over DWDM and IP/Ethernet over DWDM. The developed management platform will be evaluated both by simulations and by implementing a pilot version of the software to the provider network equipped by OPM instruments.

Expected outcome
